Houston S Wimberly III I have spent many years traveling from place to place and absorbing the surroundings that I have found myself thrust in. And, it is in these places that my work takes on some of the elements of what I see, taste, and smell. Some of my creations come from my dreams which carry at times some symbolic thoughts. I am mostly self-taught and I find that I don't care much for the academic approach to art. I guess that I am to restless though I have had some great art instructors in my early years. I mostly work with oils on canvas, but I will experiment with just about anything that burst forth the desired effect. http://bluetemplearts.com/

After a long search (fantastic job Brian!), IOSIS Art Party has finally announced their headliner for the Insect Trance room at Kinetic 3:

LOUD (Drive Records - Israel) are Kobi Toledano & Eitan Raiter, from the city of Haifa, Israel. Kobi was infected by the psychedelic trance bug and movement back in 1996, while visiting his first open air, underground event, held in the beautiful Carmel Forests. After completing his mandatory service in the IDF, he packed his bag & flew to NYC, exactly during the time the psychedelic trance has taking the city by storm, dominated by Israeli & Italian promoters. 2000 Kobi begins his degree in Sound Engineering (Jordan Valley College) and begins to experiment in sound. During this specific era he partnered with an old & dear friend, Samuel Velerstein (aka Black & White), mutually producing music under the name "Chain Reaction". In time Kobi has opened a recording studio, GAIA STUDIO, which focused on additional genres such as Jazz, Rock & Hip Hop. Eitan stepped into by the psychedelic trance bug in 1996, the second he laid his hand on a GOA TRANCE cd. Since than he begun to take active part in underground events and produce Psytrance & chill out breezes as a hobby. In time his production just got better & better a fact which lead a lot people around him to convince him that he should take things to another level... 2 year's ago Kobi's & Eitan's paths crossed while visiting a local bar. Their Cosmic connection was triggered immediately & lead to the formation of LOUD. LOUD is definitely one of the finest new breeds of Psychedelic trance producers significant and daring new sound, fresh & powerful always seeking to expand their knowledge and results. Loud released their debut album "Some Kind Of Creativity" during the end of 2006, which took the world by storm, with its unique, fresh & innovative sound. Recently Loud have released V/A Private Lesson CD + Bonus - Loud The Edge Maxi CD, a massive release including massive names such as Sub-6, Psysex, Cosma, Black & White and loads more... These days Loud are busy performing and completing their second studio album, expected 2008. http://www.myspace.com/loudkobireiter

Filling out the room will be:
OSIRIS INDRIYA (Iboga Records, IOSIS Art Party) and AMANITA (Psybooty Records, IOSIS Art Party) 2x2 DJ set

When I got home and pulled the CD out of its sleeve, the label came off along with a fair amount of the recording media. Iow, the CD is toast. Another CD would/could be nice, but I'd just as soon download it.

I'm sorry if I seemed a little off-standish [except for when I was sitting]: I was caught off guard and was really focused in on what I was hearing. And, yeah, I really don't dance much. :) Still, that was a very warm and accepting gesture that is appreciated.

Prmial Matter was one of the most exciting nights of my life. It's taken me two days to recover, but it was worth every minute. There are SO many people to thank for this incredible event that I'm not really sure where to start...

...Let me start by thanking everyone that came. Suspensions, Progressive trance, Fatty breaks, Cirkus freaks... this was not your average party... IOSIS Art Party and Breaks & Freaks... You came, you saw and you DANCED!!! Thank you Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and every other town you came from!

Xavier - From the moment you told me you wanted to see people airbrushed while they were suspended, I knew we had to do it. Thank you for sharing your vision with me and working so hard to make it a reality. You are the hardest working carnie I know!

Osiris - My partner in crime... the flyer was a work of art. Through art, you bring life to paper... Music, graphics, inspiration and patience... <I bow low>.

Jesiah - With everything going on, you were there... every step of the way. Planning meetings, organizing the sound system, power issues... Your love for your work shines through. You have my respect and admiration... now if we could only get you there a few hours earlier. ;)

Brian - Promoting, hashing out details, running around getting things done... thank you for being a part of it all.

Jesse - From the moment I called, you were there. There was no task to big or to small... you gave selflessly and for that I am most thankful.

Matthew and CHAC - I could probably write a book about everything you did to make this a success. I'll summerize it by saying thank you for giving us a place to call home. CHAC exists because you make it a place where dreams come true.

Jen - This was your IOSIS Art Party in many ways... the suspensions were beautiful works of art!

Jeff - You couldn't even be there and still your light shone!!! The lighting upstairs was perfect.

Scott - Visual WOW! I'm speechless...

Shapey and Lynne - Blacklights, fabric and undying support. You mean so much to me and what we do. I only hope to be able to repay you for everything you do.

David - We weren't even expecting art and suddenly you called and there it was. It was perfect. Beautiful and in all the right places.

PURE Cirkus - BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE WHOLE CIRKUS!!!! Way to much to write in an itty bitty space... I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!

Joe and Ronda - The chill room was truely a place for escape. Thank you for working around all the problems. Every time I walked in there, people were mesmerized by the music and decor.

Fremont Arts Council - Outstanding volunteers... Thank you for supporting all art forms... Seattle needs you!

Ticon - Not only did you give us the most amazing set (they said this was the best party they've played at in N. America), your whole attitude was fantastic. Can't wait to have you back!

Electric Mayhem, Sacrosanct, Tal Maal, Adam Ohana, Mentats, phowa, Carlos, Shiftb, Fractalien - THESE MUSICIANS ROCK!!!!! I can't gush enough about the lineup. THANK YOU!

Eric, Yvette, Sasha - DID YOU SEE THAT AIRBRUSHING?!?! Created right before your eyes with canvases that were swinging around... in total awe...

Psyboba - You can't underestimate how much we appreciate all you do to help promote these events.

Merch Table Volunteers (Jen, Kevin, Tom, Brandee) - Yea! Yea! Yea! You were great!!!!

If you missed the Ticon party last night, you missed what will surely be one of the highlights of 2006. My wife and I were driving home afterward and couldn't stop talking about how amazing the event was from start to finish. We started talking about what I call the "wow factor" - when the music and dancefloor and energy just all come together. Most events are lucky to have even one or two of these moments, but Ticon's set was just a continuous non-stop "Wow factor" for their entire set. I have not seen a dance floor EXPLODE (yes, literally EXPLODE!) like that in a long time. With reworkings of older classics (it was nice to hear "Substance"), songs from their new album (the highlight being "U Make Me Wanna Drink More" - hearing that live on a big sound system was worth the drive alone!), and a lot of unreleased new material (probably about half their set) - I can't wait for their next album! I was bouncing on the dancefloor with an energy I have not felt in a very long time, and I have not been able to stop smiling ever since I have woken up...

Osiris and Amanita totally rocked the dancefloor and built up the energy leading to Ticon, and I had a lot of fun opening up the night. I am truly honored to have been a part of such a special evening.

Thank you to Yvette and everyone who made this event happen. Can't wait for the next one!

Saturday, April 8, 2006
Portland, Oregon

A sonic psychedelic journey guided by:

NYSTAGMUS - live!
(SunDance Records, BooM! Records, U.S.T.A. Records - Mount Elphenstone, B.C.)

With over 16 years of formal music training, including audio engineering and instruction on a wide variety of instruments, Matte Gillard has been writing electronic music since 1995, and has been performing live for the past nine years. Nystagmus' debut album, The Immaculate Perception, has been released on SunDance Records, and several of his compositions can be found on compilations from international labels, including BooM! Records and U.S.T.A. Records. Matte's music takes psychedelic trance to a new level, combining complex melodies, hypnotic rhythms, driving beats, with a touch of humor to produce a uniquely hallucinatory experience for minds and dancefloors alike!
www.nystagmus.ca

PR0TEUS - live!
(SunDance Records - Seattle)

One of the northwest’s most prolific producers, Fernando Arquines comes from an improvisational jazz background and is known for his ability to translate thought into sound. As well as playing at several festivals this summer, Andy has kept busy with releases on Elektrik Orgasm and SunDance Records, with a debut album scheduled to be released this year. Making his first Portland appearance in almost a year, Andy’s signature funky twisted psytrance will get the dancefloor grooving!

Sweet Chaos
(Sidetrakkt – Pittsburgh, PA)

One of the east coast’s best-kept secrets, Terry’s eclectic range of styles and impeccable mixing has earned him bookings at several festivals and events across Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, and West Virginia. Making his first-ever west coast appearance, his set will explore the inner reaches of your mind and beyond!

Manifest
(Apollo’s Lute, Soular Records – Portland)

Jamey has been very active in the northwest psytrance community as a party organizer, dj, and as a producer as a member of Freaks of Nature. Intense, frenzied, and always psychedelic, Manifest will be our guide as our journey moves into the darkness of the night.

Makoi
(PsyBooty, Catharsis Crew – Portland)

Groovy and richly textured, Makoi’s seamless and intricate mixes always tell a story. Makoi strives to disappear into the mix and maximize the potential of the overlapping tracks. That is, to mix two songs together so seamlessly the dj is forgotten, while simultaneously bringing elements from those songs together in a way that heightens their dramatic frequencies and textures. Mac’s set of funky progressive psytrance will be the perfect beginning of our journey.

Electric Mayhem
(Sidetrakkt – Portland)

Founder of Sidetrakkt, Dan introduced psytrance to Pittsburgh, PA through his dj sets and as an event organizer for five years before relocating to the northwest. Known for his diverse selection of music, his sets are carefully crafted to reflect and enhance both the time of night and the energy on the dancefloor. With his closing morning set, Dan will bring our journey to an end, but also a new beginning…

Wow... I'm still recovering. Kinetic was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and career. The diversity of music and people was fantastic. From 18 to mid-60s, I had people coming up to me from every age, race and creed. I have so many people to thank for making this such a success:

Osiris - From concept to implementation, you have been there, planning the event and then giving it life through your amazing flyer design and visual concepts. And to top it off, you played a killer set to pump the crowd for Atmos. As you manager, business partner and friend, I only have two things to say... You inspire me, thank you.

Brian (Amanita) - Every step of the way, you were there. Music selection, problem solving, decoration... and then you gave us all the biggest gift of all, you infused IOSIS with Daniel (erth) Mark's music. It was a magical set.

-I want to interject something very special here. Daniel's mom flew out at the last minute to attend Kinetic. For those of you that don't know, Daniel (erth) was scheduled to play the opening slot in the Insect Room. He has been missing since November. Much of the music that Amanita played was unreleased erth music provided by his label, Psybooty. His mother wanted to experience what Daniel used to experience and learn more about the music and community. It was beautiful and touching to meet this woman who in the face of tragedy has found a way to be close to her missing son. Pat, I dedicate this entire event to the memory of Daniel and to your strength. You are an inspiration to us all-

Ramiro - When we thought about the concept for this event almost a year ago now (chatting at WMC), I don't think we ever envisioned it could grow to be this amazing. Every time, the Animal Room shows everyone how to part-tae. We couldn't have this without you.

Jesiah - LUCID SOUND ROCKS!!!! I can't thank you enough for making the Animal and Insect Room BUMP. I'm speechless... I didn't have to worry about it for a minute. And I can't forget a special shout out to Tony for all his hard work moving everything.

Randy Engstrom and Kay Morrison - Can I just say that Static Factory and Space Virgins know booze?!?! From day one you took charge to make sure no one would go thirsty. Water, Rockstar, booze... it was all there being poured by an amazing staff.

Jeff Clemens - My light GOD! The House room felt like a dream. Exhibits mixed with fantastic lights. Your talent continues to amaze me.

Sean Horton - Thank you for providing a place where we could go and be dazzled. The talent lineup in the Dinosaur room was superb. Just what we needed to compliment the environment. Special thanks to Deru's set for helping me keep calm halfway through the night. ;)

Xavier Frost - Anything that was needed, you were there. That alone would have been enough, but then you surpassed it with the amazing PURE performers. Aerialists, juggles, stiltwalkers... adding their fantastic energy to the night.

Seizure Labs - My Visual GODS! Portland is lucky to have you, as are we. I know the Insect Room is brighter than we would have liked, but your visuals set the mood and made us forget that there was any other type of light in the room.

Jodi Opitz - I never had to worry about the door and for that I owe you a HUGE thanks. Winning staff and fantastic organization.

Cindy and Betsy from the Pacific Science Center - I could write paragraphs and paragraphs about how wonderful it has been to work with both of you. From site visits to on-site staff, you have accommodated every request. I'm looking forward to the next show. Special thanks to Brian for all his help with the power and aerialist.

Kristina Kokonis - Everytime I think I'm screwed and can't get something I need, there you are. You swooped in at the last moment and took care of so much. Then... you came to the party and infuse that vivacious energy into every room. Ahh... I love you for it!!!

Cody from Rockstar - You truly are a Rockstar! We were so lucky to have such a generous sponsor. Everyone at the party should go out and buy a Rockstar just to say thanks!

Syd - You came in, saw what needed to be done, and did it. I was lucky to have you.

Chavon - I asked and you came through... what more can I say. I was blown away by how generously you gave your of your time to ensure that all the signs were up and that the merch table was taken care of.

Kristin - Out of nowhere you came in and filled a gigantic need at coat check. I am humbled by your ability to give selflessly.

Shapeshifter and Lynne - Decorating needed to be done and you were there to do. Rides to the house, supplies to be picked up and things that needed chiffon. You are always there in a pinch, my ace in the hole.

Roger - Last minute laser beauty!!!

All the volunteers and staff - THANK YOU! This event was effortless compared to the last, much of it because of you!

Jerod Knapp, Angel Ceballos and Jenna Colby - What Talent! Paintings, photographs, stories through color and light.

Wendy J - A rockin' set by a rockin' woman.

Atmos - I received an e-mail from someone thanking us for having you out. He said something that truly touched me, "we all needed that, it was very healing." I completely agree. Our community needed you and your music. Very healing...

And all the amazing people that attended. We had ticket sales from as far away as Idaho, bus loads from Portland and adventurers from Vancouver. I just hope you got as much out of it as I did.

I'm sorry if I missed anyone. I am once again humbled by the outpouring of support and encouragement from all sides. Seeing all the different types of people was the most rewarding part of the experience. I am SO excited about the next one.

The response has been huge for this Saturday’s KINETIC event at the Pacific Science Center. Both this week’s Seattle Weekly and The Stranger (both come out tonight... 02.15.06) have made it the “pick” for Saturday Night! Here is what they wrote:

The Seattle Weekly...
Last summer's "Magnetic" event in the same unconventional location allowed you to pet sea urchins and watch butterflies shed their cocoons to the beat of pounding house music—and this year's lineup is twice as eclectic and solid: Atmos, DJ Heather, Lusine, Deru, Osiris Indriya, Nordic Soul, Ramiro and Jeromy Nail, Amanita, Jerry Abstract, Julie Herrera, Son of Rose, Kris Moon, and more appear. Pacific Science Center, 200 Second Ave. N., 9 p.m. $18 adv./$25 18+ [no author listed]

The Stranger...
How much audio-visual stimulation is too much? Kinetic will force you to answer that question. Nothing succeeds like excess, and the Decibel, Uniting Souls, and IOSIS crews have assembled a potent lineup to prove it. Feast on the gamut of electronic styles flaunted by Lusine, Deru, Nordic Soul, Son of Rose, Kris Moon, Atmos, Osiris Indriya, Jerry Abstract, Heather, and others. It’s like a week of beats crammed into one glorious night. (Pacific Science Center, 200 Second Ave N, 686-4622. 9pm, $18 adv/$25 DOS, 18+.) DAVE SEGAL
TICKETS - http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2963
Thanks to those who wrote back to me after my last email. You were among the last to get your $5 off presale tickets (which are now gone). There are still plenty of regular presales available for $18. Tickets are $25 at the door.

Definition taken from http://www.blue-bottle.co.uk/trans.htm

Iosis is the final stage of Alchemical Transformation and is also known as the "Purple Phase".

At this stage everything comes together. It represents embodiment of the spirit where everything comes from the One and returns to the One. It occurs as a reddening of the matter, and ultimately results in the production of the red tincture or elixir. It is where heaven and earth meet and marry, bringing about a wholeness and representing both marriage and death. It is the gold stage, symbolised by a red sun or a red lion, the yolk of the egg or a garden of endless fertility. It is also represented by a cherubic Mercurius child introducing us to the idea that humanity is a microcosm that reflects the Macrocosm of the Divine. Its ultimate symbol is that of the hermaphroditic Uroboros, the great snake swallowing its own tail, signifying completion and encircling.

The process of change from leukosis to iosis was symbolically represented by the coming together of the red king and white queen - the chemical wedding. Hence the final goal of the production of the red elixir or philosophers’ stone, represents a union of both male and female - a hermaphrodite of nature.
